I was kind of iffy about posting this tutorial. I don't love it but it's okay. lol.... I almost considered posting it as a Nail Fail, but I didn't think it failed that horribly. So instead you get the photo of the final design as well as the tutorial.
I know water marbling can be tricky. Just test out your polishes and keep trying. It's definitely learned through trial and error. good Luck! and Happy Valentine's Day!

Materials Used:
Orly - Bonder (base coat)
American Apparel - Angeline
OPI - Up Front and Personal

Cuticle Oil - any kind
Q-Tip/cotton swab
cuticle stick or pin - to do the dragging
plastic/glass/disposable container
room temperature tap water - some people recommend filtered water. (Test out your water and see which is best for you.)

I'm not a pro at water marbling. I'm still learning.

It's been so long since I've posted a tutorial. This is one that I designed a couple months ago. I like the sharpness of the design. I'm unsure about the red stripe, as many of my youtube viewers have also voiced dislike for, but still, I like the design in general.

Teal Foil Abstract Nail Art Tutorial

Here's a gorgeous abstract tutorial for you using nail foils.
The application technique I use in this tutorial is exactly the same as how I applied the Imperial Purple foil in my Imperial Glitter and Glam posts. So if you wanted to know how I created the graffiti look in that nail, just watch the video below.

I did the tutorial on the model hand, but actually wore this design for my work Christmas party in early December. (got behind in editing and almost forgot about this video.) I think it's a great party look for any night out. I think this foiling method is going to be a trend with me for a little while. :)

Holiday Nail Fails

Well, the new year has begun.

And there's nothing like a few nail fails to bring out a chuckle or two.

For those of you unfamiliar with this series:

Nail Fails are posts that I publish with no particular regularity. I only post updates to this series when I attempt to create a nail design which didn't remotely resemble my intended aesthetic, or for some other reason simply falls short of my expectations. It certainly doesn't mean that it's necessarily an 'ugly' design. But for some reason or other, I decided to ditch the tutorial and not post it to my Youtube channel.

So instead, as my blog followers, you get to see the reality of my nail art trials and tribulations and the reality of my craft: not every design is a winner.

I really wanted to create more Holiday or Winter themed nail designs. I had quite a few ideas in mind. However, many of them just didn't turn out as nice as I had hoped.

So, without further ado...

I tried to do a general nail design with a Christmas

undertone. ...meh...

The polka dot one is my fave of the three designs here.

Well, this one definitely didn't turn out. The glitter polish

behind the santa hat ended up being way more distracting

than festive.

I think it's obvious what this one was supposed to be. I

ended up doing a similar french tip with a white tree instead

with smaller snowflakes and a white background. That

turned out much better than this one.

Okay. My last NOTD was so awesome I couldn't help but think about making it even more awesome.

So I took my original Imperial Glitter and Glam manicure and applied a duochrome glitter polish on top of it. I used Kiko's sparkle polish in 270.

Here's my first Nails of the Day [NOTD] of the year!
It uses a couple of my new polishes that I bought over the holidays as well as a foil. I'll be posting a tutorial on how I used the foil on my You Tube channel soon. So subscribe to be updated with my newest tutorials :)
For this manicure I used:

OPI - Natural Nail Base Coat

(Note: Normally I don't use two base coats, but because my nails are in such horrific shape from some nail stickers that I tested, I decided to use one base coat to help thicken up my nail base and the second one to attempt to smooth out the surface of my nail.)

I'm loving this foil technique. I think it may be a big thing with me in 2012.

Holiday Haul

Hope everyone had a great holiday!

I spent my Christmas in Vancouver visiting friends. We had lots of great food (thank YOU, Christine!) and lots of great time with friends who I don't get to see nearly often enough. --and that means you: Christine, Aveline, Andrew, Rachel, Eddie, Erin. Jeremy, Robb.
Also, while I was in Vancouver I told a few of the aforementioned kids about my blog and youtube channel. It was pretty interesting seeing their reactions. My blog and youtube channel aren't really something I advertise to my friends. I think I don't tell a lot of people about it because I already feel so obsessed with nail polish. And telling people that I have a blog and youtube channel that both focus on this obsession makes me feel even more obsessed. :S lol. oh well. Now they know.

Okay, so now on to the meat of this blog post.
Yes, I did some boxing day shopping (or for those of you not in Canada, I did some after Christmas shopping. Don't ask me where the term "boxing day" came from. I don't know and am definitely too lazy to google it right now. If you know, let me know in a comment. ;)

REVIEW: Sally Hansen Nail Effects

Here's another review of nail stickers!
The first review I did was one that could be purchased online at www.bornprettystore.com

I wasn't overly impressed with the quality, ease of application or durability of that particular brand of nail sticker. However the price was right and the selection of patterns was Amazing.

With that quick comparison aside let's talk about the Sally Hansen Nail Effects stickers.
Here's an overview of the main point i'll review about this product:
How would I rate the
- accessiblity?
- affordablity?
- selection?
- application?
- durability?
- removability?
- overall impression

ACCESSIBILITY:
The SHNE are readily available at your local drugstore or Walmart.

AFFORDABILITY:
They retail from about $7.99 to $9.99 and up (In Canada) depending on where you get it.

SELECTION:
The original line came with a total of 24 designs including handful of prints, some bright solids and some metallic/glitters. I was recently in my local Shoppers Drugmart and saw an attachment to the end cap advertising christmas/holiday designs. I didn't actually see any in the store (possibly they were sold out? or they hadn't actually arrived yet.) but I think I saw about 10 or more holiday themed designs. So that's exciting. I think if the whole nail trend keeps up, we might be fortunate enough to see Sally Hansen come out with more designs for other holidays... Do I see Valentine's day nail stickers in our near future?? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

APPLICATION:

The nail sticker were extremely thin and quite flexible. They applied to my nails with great ease. I was very impressed! I messed up on one nail when I tried to stretch it too much (you can see it in the photo above on the middle finger.) So don't stretch too much! or that may happen to you.

But other than that, I think I had ONE wrinkle on one other nail and that was it. Even applying them to my dominant hand wasn't hard at all.

DURABILITY:

These nail stickers have claimed that they can last up to 10 days. And I believe it! I think I wore these for nearly a week. There was one chip which was conveniently located near where the wrinkle was. But other than that and a little bit of expected tip wear, they lasted very nicely. I only took them off when I did because my nails were growing out and the gap by my cuticle was starting to drive me nuts.

REMOVABILITY:

These nail stickers removed easily with regular nail polish remover. It did take me a little longer to remove these than a regular manicure because it seemed to have a gooey adhesive kind of texture under the sticker - think melted marshmallows. But with another quick swipe of nail polish remover the sticker was completely and harmlessly removed from my natural nails with zero signs of damage. I was very pleased.

OVERALL IMPRESSION:

I don't know how long the nail sticker phenomenon is going to stick around (yes, pun intended.) But the Sally Hansen Nail Effects would definitely be at the top of my list. The price is very reasonable - especially when compared to other brands like Sephora, it's available nearly everywhere you can buy nail polish, and it's so easy to apply and it'll last as long as a regular manicure. So if you're wanting to see some awesome designs on your nails but aren't patient enough to do the design yourself, or you don't have the funds to get nail art done professionally, I highly recommend this product!

I already had a plain green manicure on my nails and felt like filming a tutorial but didn't feel like completely starting from scratch. This is what I came up with. It's free hand and pretty easy to do. I was originally going to do each nail a little different but then realized that the ring finger was so drastically different than the other designs that I simply split the footage up into two distinct tutorials.

NAIL FAIL: halloween haunts

I've done some designs that didn't quite work out and I've been lazy about posting them so here you go. This is the last of the bunch that I was too lazy to post. You're welcome. :)

This one was supposed to be a jack-o-lantern. yikes. sure didn't turn out well. Although its creepiness may actually give it some merit considering the holidays it was designed for.

This one was replaced with a simple skull stamping tutorial. The original idea was to do Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas. Sheesh. yeah.... no.

This was a failed attempt at stamping. I had tried to squeeze three halloween themed images onto my nails - spider, spider web, bats. If it hadn't failed so horribly I probably would have tried to put the witch on there too. (All images on Bundle Monster Image Plate BM13 - from their first bundle.)

I suspect the stamping fail was because I took too long after scraping the polish and picking it up on the stamp. so the spider web on my ring finger ended up looking all mangled. I think that's when I decided to try again with a second web, which also failed. and then proceeded to attempt to cover it up with a large spider. no such luck. eech.

Yeah. just didn't turn out well. I should have stopped before adding the red 'accent' onto the yellow leaf. I'm pretty sure that's when I decided this design would end up in this series.

Here's another design that was inspired by a print on print & pattern.
I can't figure out what the heck to call this design, so as the title of this post says, it's something, something. hahahaha.

This one really did not turn out as intended. I think the original design was really pretty but maybe just too busy for such a small canvas such as a finger nail. Well, either that or I'm simply not skilled enough to pull it off.

I like certain aspects of this design. I like how the pink dots are layered over another pattern. It give the design some complexity. But the big yellow thing (I think it was supposed to be a sun) just looks kinda odd. Maybe I'll try something in this style but with fewer layers of patterns and objects. Here's hoping that endeavour turns out better than this one.

This nail design is called Dusty Wallpaper.

I actually really do like it. It was inspired by a fabric print somewhere on the blog print & pattern. Unfortunately I don't have a link to the exact image (but I think it's somewhere in the realm of august 2011. if you're dying to search for it.)

The reason it made the Nail Fail series was simply because of a filming issue I had which made the tutorial nearly useless. The lighting I had while filming was so lacking that I was describing so many things that you simply couldn't see. So here it land, in the Nail Fail series instead. What a shame.

I really like this design. It makes me think of a print on a dress that I might be able to find at Anthropology.

This one I called: Quirky Sci Fi. That's kinda what I think of when I see this design.
I had no real design intent when I started creating this on a whim. But i'm not super in love with it.
I think it looks sic-fi to me because of the orange dots over the yellow line. It makes me think of the visual trail that'd be temporarily left behind when a cartoon space ship, or flying/hovering vehicle passes by. hmm.. I was originally thinking that it reminded me of Star Trek, but now after that description i'm imagining The Jetsons.
I do like how the cluster of dots appears very imperfect. I think I did end up using that style of dots in a tutorial later. But here, it does look a bit odd. Kind of like a mud trail that a dog that was playing fetch out in the rain would leave behind,

Hi everyone!
Here is a product review for you today. I was sent these nail stickers for review from bornprettystore.com. It's my very first time trying nail stickers, so watch and see how I do.

As promised in the video I will be doing another review of a comparable product that can be purchased in stores - the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Stickers.
This review will hopefully be up within a couple weeks.

QUICK POINTS:
*Application was a bit tricky.
*Durability was definitely lacking. I'm also not a fan of my nail polish/art staying on my nails for 11 days. So I wasn't really that upset that the stickers didn't last 11 days.
*The selection in amazing - I mean, seriously. How can you beat 106 patter choices???
*And the price is pretty great too.
*It was definitely fun, and something I'd recommend for a fun night out where you want your nails to get a lot of attention.
*So overall, it's a great value and worth checking out if you're new to nail stickers, or you're a pro at them.

Now i'm personally a huge fan of the ombre trend. Yes, I know it's very last year, but what can I say. It's a great subtle way to add a bit of spice to your manicure - in a way that's very work and school appropriate.

I must admit that although I love a great ombre manicure, if i've got a craving for some real eye catching nail art this isn't what you should be going for.

I've been slacking on posting my tutorials to my blog big time.

So since Halloween is almost upon us, here are all my halloween tutorial all in one blog post.

I've got two free hand ones and two stamping ones - so hopefully there's something for everyone.
I'll attach all the pics first and have the videos after the jump.

The first is the mask from the blockbuster

movie Scream (and Scream 2,3,4.)

I also added on a bit of a streaky red

and white french tip.

I think it looks frighteningly fantastic!

The first stamping tutorial is a bundle monster one.
Guess it's not really a tutorial since I don't really do
anything out of the ordinary. But it's still a basic
stamping tutorial non-the-less. So if you're new
to stamping, here's a very basic one for ya.

The next stamping tutorial is still not that difficult

- how hard can stamping really get, right?

I gave the pumpkin two different finishes.

I prefer the matt finish. Do you agree?

And the last tutorial that I just filmed and put up
today is a free hand dry/drag marbling spider web.
It's pretty easy, but just make sure your bottom
colour isn't a quick drying polish.
It might make the dragging difficult.

What is everyone doing to celebrate this spooky holiday?
I'm going to a friend's house party. My boyfriend and I are dressing up as Woody and Bo Peep from Toy Story. I'm pretty excited. He's going to look awesome. I'll look pretty good to -- but i gotta admit that i'm far from excited about the idea of wearing a blond wig all night. eech.

***IF YOU HATE THE MODEL HAND***
Please know I am very aware that many of you hate it when I use the fake hand. HOwever because I do several tutorials in one weekend, I can not do them all on my own nails with out damaging them. Thus, the model hand. I sue it as little as I can because i know it creeps so many people out. However, I will continue to use it when necessary.
IF YOU CAN NOT STAND LOOKING AT THE FAKE HAND, DON'T WATCH THE VIDEO. You can always tell by looking at the video thumbnail if i've done the tutorial on the model hand or on my own hand. All you have to do is not watch the video. Simple as that.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Nail Art Tutorial

October is the month of all things pink. Especially including the pink ribbon that you'll see people wearing in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Although I don't personally know anyone who's been affected with Breast Cancer, it's something that's often in my mind when the big C is mentioned.

Nail Polish Picks - Fall Favourites 2011

So far behind in my blog and youtube channel. I told myself that I'd do this within the first week of fall. well so much for that.
But it's not too late. So here are my picks for what kind of nail polishes I'll be wearing this fall. As expected, the fall season brings about a drastic change in the color palette of fashion and beauty. Changing from the bright vibrant neons of spring and summer, autumn usually is full of darker more muted colors. I've tossed in a couple of 'bright' colors just for the heck of it. Because, I don't actually expect myself to wear only muted colors this entire season. I'm pretty sure I'll get bored of them at some point and have to bust out a vibrant red or something of the like.

Multicolored Spots - Nail Art Tutorial

Here's a very simple dotting nail art tutorial done on my short natural nails. It's a delicate looking manicure that even a novice can pull off. (on both hands :)
As you can tell this is an older tutorial (with my previous camera angle/setting) I'm pretty sure it's the last one that I have that has been filmed with this view that is farther away from my nails. So don't worry. All of my new tutorials will have the newer and closer camera angle from now on. :)

Herringbone Print Nails - Bundle Monster Stamping Tutorial - [BM201]

I don't remember how I decided to do a Herringbone print nail. But I do remember that when I realized that I could make it easy by using a bundle monster image plate I was so ecstatic. I know this is a bummer for those of you who don't have any stamping tools but don't worry. As you have probably noticed, I do switch back and forth between stamping and free hand designs. :)

I'm also hoping to have time one of these days to do a stamping tutorial as well as a free hand version of the same design. Not sure that I can necessarily do that for every design - because some things that are done with stamping simply are not easily done by hand. But the idea is definitely in the back of my mind stewing for the next time I have a great design that I can do with both konad/bundle monster and by hand.

But if you do have the second Bundle monster stamping plates, here's a really easy chic alternative to houndstooth or plaid print nails.

Camouflage Nails - Nail Art Tutorial

Here's a great tutorial for the Autumn season.
It's on trend with the military greens that are in fashion this season and it's a classic print. If you don't like greens, you can always switch it up by using shades of blue or pink or greys, as camouflage has already been done in pretty much every colour under the sun.
It's a relatively simple design. I definitely googled an image of camouflage print while creating this design. So find a good inspiration camouflage design you like and let's get us some camo nails for the start of Fall.

Nail Fail - Stained Glass Glitter Nails

Wow. These nails did not turn out even remotely as I had imaged they would. It took an average amount of time, but I think the fail of it was due to the harsh/brightness of the colors. I think I would have liked it better if the glitters were of a softer tone. Also because the separation between each of the colors wasn't as clean as I would have liked, I added the black lines which makes it even more harsh on the eyes. One might say it's edgy. And maybe it is. But it's not what I had envisioned for this design. So it goes into the category of Nail Fails. Maybe when I get more glitter polishes I'll try it again.

I think this pattern is 70s. If someone can correct me, please leave a comment. But it feels 70s to me.
I'm sure the colors I used didn't help. lol..
The base color I used was OPI's Up Front and Personal. Then with Bundle Monster image plate 203 I used Cover Girl's Spiced Tea. I'm not sure where you can get the cover girl color from b/c I randomly got it at a dollar store in Halifax.
This isn't my fave NOTD. I don't think it even lasted the whole day before I took it off. lol.. Oh well. You win some you lose some.

I love this manicure on so many levels. I love the colors both individually and together. I love that it feels fun and 80s - which was totally unintended but lovingly embraced. And I love the simplicity of the simple angular stripe.

To create this manicure I first used OPI's Wing It. Then used painters tape to mask off the yellow area. First I used Color Club's Almost Famous. Then after doing one hand I topped that off with Sally Hansen HD Lite to give the yellow it's shimmery finish.
Love this manicure so much!

Oh what the heck. I filmed a quick how-to on this. why don't I post it. I'm not going to post it on my Youtube channel though b/c it's so basic. But since I filmed it (no editing though) I may as well as show it to you. :)

I was originally going to do a different color combination on each nail but I got too much into my groove of painting one nail orange.. then moved onto the next before I realized I was only supposed to have one nail with an orange base color. So one color scheme it is.

I'm so excited for this week to be over already. Haven't been getting enough sleep.

Well with all that whining done and out of the way, here's another nail tutorial for you.

It's all free hand - aka. no stamping - for those of you who don't have Konad or Bundle Monster plates.

It's super duper simple. it's just dots.

Also, if you don't have a 'proper' dotting tool, just use things from around the house - ie. tooth pick, bobbi pins, dressmaker's needles. a really pointy pencil, or an old ball point pen. the possibilities are endless. it just needs to be small and rounded/pointed - but of course, not sharp. let's not hurt our selves for the sake of nail art. (we can leave that to the other realms of fashion/beauty)

Also - FYI.

I have recently adjusted my camera so I can now film much closer to my nails. (as close as you see them in the above thumnail.) I'm very excited! I know how hard it is sometimes for you to see what I'm doing because previously my camera was so far away. But I've made an adjustment and now my new tutorials will be much easier to see! whoot whoot!

The only thing is that the new camera angle/view will be delayed by about 3-5 tutorials that I've already pre-filmed. Once those are all posted new ones will be coming your way with a much improved zoom.

HAUL: American Apparel Nail Lacquer - First Impression

I was in the mall a few days ago with a friend and we were right by American Apparel. This is not a store that I shop at. I do not like their advertisements, I don't like their prices, and their clothes are not particularly my style. However, all that being said, I have been hemming and hawing over their polishes since they first came out.

I have a list of colors in their nail polish line that I'd love to try. At the top of that list is Butter as seen here on All Lacquered Up's swatch.
Of course that is the one color this particular store didn't have. They thought that they might have had some in the back. But alas, that pale yellow nail polish was not to be mine that day. But since I was there and the polishes were 3 for $18 I figured I'd still buy a few and try them out.

I love the packaging. I love the shape of the bottles. the logo on the front is nice and the handle is smooth black plastic. The brush is on the longer side (due to the shape of the bottle) but the bristles are very flexible and fan out very nicely to make application a total dream (so far).

Here are the three colors I got:

Yup. It's official. I'm in LOVE. Although I've only tried L'Esprit so far (and only did a test swatch of Army Jacket on my friend) the formulas are AWESOME!! I wore L'Esprit yesterday and even though it was a creamy lavender, it applied like a dream and was opaque in ONE COAT! I was astounded after the first nail. It was of medium thickness and it dried nicely.

{{The wicked opacity makes me very interested to see how well they'd work with stamping}}

I'm so excited to try the other two.

There are definitely others that I need to go back for - Butter and Office, i'm looking at you.

Faux Crackle Manicure - Nail Art Tutorial

This tutorial was inspired by the whole crackle/shatter nail polish trend that's been happening this past season.
I'm not a fan of the trend personally (mostly because I don't like the shape of the crackles.. lol.. yep. I'm picky.) But I do like the idea of it.
So I created this tutorial that anyone can do at home without having to invest in any special crackle polishes.

***note***
I did try using one base color and a second color on top to get a more true "crackle" effect. It did not work at all. Both colors ended up getting lifted by the lace, and it wasn't even remotely neat or pretty. yuk.
So if you want a more dramatic effect, try using a darker color that's more contrasting to your skin tone.

(haha.. yeah. the title was inspired by... i can't believe i'm going to admit this.. but Kourtney Kardashian when on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Chloe asked Kourtney what the difference was between a zebra that didn't have stripes and a horse. Kourtney said that Zebras live in the land of the rainbow trees.. heehehee. cute.)

Quick Tip: How to Clean Nail Art Brushes

I've been asked several times how I clean my nail art brushes. I finally made a video on it. It's pretty simple but hopefully it will help some of you out.

Please keep in mind, I do mention in the video that I do clean the brush with nail polish remover both BEFORE and AFTER to doing this little trick.

I'll have a list of the materials used under the video.

Materials used:
Nail Polish Remover
- I use the brand ONYX (from walmart or london drugs) but you can use any brand of your choice.

Clear Nail Polish
- I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Invisible (from walmart or drug store). But again, ANY clear polish will work with this trick.

I would also use a circle cotton pad at the end, but, like I said, I didn't have one with me when I was filming.
They can be purchased at your local drugstore or walmart, walgreens, etc.

The brush I was cleaning is not actually a "nail art brush" it is a thin acrylic paint brush I bought from my local art store. there are lots of inexpensive brushes you can use for nail art that can be bought at your local art store. (I think this one was around $2 - $5.

Bundle Monster Stamping Image Plates - Bundle #2 - 25 Plates - pt.1

AHHHHH!
So again a BIG THANK YOU to every one who voted for my nail art design in the bundle monster contest! Yes, I was one of the 25 winners and late last week, I received my new image plates!

I have only tried one of the plates so far, and I didn't do anything elaborate. If i get off my butt before publishing this post, I'll take a photo of my current BM manicure.

They are FAR superior to their old plates because of some changes they made.

Change 1: Plastic backing on the plate. no need to make your own. The edge of the plate is much smoother so there is less chance that you'll cut yourself with these plates. Of course, it still is a thin metal plate, so I still use a bit of caution/common sense.

Change 2: The thin protective film on the plate is now translucent blue. So for those of you who didn't realize there was a protective layer on there when it was clear... well, now it's pretty obvious, I think.

Change 3: THIS IS THE BIGGEST AND MOST IMPORTANT CHANGE in my opinion anyways. And those of you with larger or wider nail beds will surely agree. They have made the size of their full nail designs larger! They are now the same size as Konad's full nail image plates. :D YES! (though, truth be told, it'd be nice if they were a bit longer still. I can only get full nail coverage, particularily on my thumb, when my nails are VerY short.)

FIRST IMPRESSION:

Because of these three changes I love this bundle even more than the first!
I also recommend this set because I'm personally a fan of the full nail images rather than the smaller ones and this set has at least 2-4 full nail images on 20 of the 25 plates! The other 5 plates have 6 french tip designs each (which I've never owned before, but am very eager to try out :)

I had a request on my Youtube Channel to do an animal print nail tutorial by hand (not using konad or bundle monster stamping plates.)

This one is one that was originally lost when I lost the data from my external hard drive, so it was a second attempt. It looks MUCH better than my original. :)

It was pretty fun to do and is as simple as a little bit of sponging and a bunch of straight horizontal lines.
It's not that original, but I hope you still enjoy it!

NOTD: Rebellion against Green

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day. I wore a jade and gold necklace and some simple one colored green nails. (I wore Essie's Going Incognito.)

I'm not really a huge green nails kinda girl and after several fails at trying to spice up my plain manicure with some glitter water marbling I ended up removing all the polish and starting from scratch. I almost just re-applied the green b/c I'm kinda already known at work as the girl with the nice nails, and I didn't want to be bombarded with the question of "How many times a week do you change your manicure?" (the answer to which is 'usually once a week') But I just wasn't in the mood to reapply green. So instead I went anti green ... sorta.

I did a naked purple glitter reverse moon manicure.
and frankly, I Love it!

Here's what I used:

OPI - Matte Nail Envy nail strengthener

OPI - Natural Nail Base Coat

Orly - Goth (it's a black sparsely flecked with small silver glitters)

Wet'n'Wild - Night Prowl. (dark purple shimmer)

Seche Vite

I created the curve of the moon with small circle stickers I got from Staples.

I think it's hot! and just in time for the weekend!!

Neon Graffiti Nails - Tutorial

whoo hoo!

So I had a request to do neon punk rock nails. Unfortunately I didn't have my list in front of me when i was coming up with this design, so in my head the request got translated to neon graffiti. Fortunately, I think it still falls within the theme of punk rock.

I did a few test nails (which I rarely ever do! -ususally I just turn on the camera and wing it ;)
I decided to try and do my user name (shortened): M80M. ~~Here are how the test nails turned out.~~ oops, sorry. i forgot that those images are on my external drive. (see previous post regarding the issues with that)

ok. so just the tutorial instead.
I LOVE this design! HOpe you do too! and I hope you give it a try! only average skill needed. but with a little more time required.
If you do try it, I'd love to see photos of how they turned out!\

{The polish - most noticeable on my pinkie - streaked a bit when I applied my top coat. Although not intentional, I'm not bothered at all by this at all. I think it works well with the theme :)

I forced myself to do a green tutorial for St. Patrick's Day this year. (Since I failed to do any last year - even though I managed to whip out over 5, i think, Valentine's Day tutorials.)
I couldn't figure out anything that I really liked, so I decided to just go for a simple green plaid nail. Hope you enjoy!

It's Official: Essie Has Gone Retail

Yep. I heard the press about it a while ago.
And a couple days ago while wandering through my local drugstore (Shoppers Drug Mart - for those Canucks out there who are curious) I saw the new Essie retail stand.

(sorry for the crap photos. my phone's camera is a also crap)

The bottle seems to have been slightly relabeled. The name 'Essie' is no longer simply moulded in the glass but is also printed in white vertically along the bottle. I think this is a simple and non-offensive change to the look, and frankly, will always appreciate the simplicity of the shape of the bottle and font of the logo.

The stand not only features the newest collection by Essie, but also tempts nail polish addicts with treatments and top and base coat polishes.

Sometimes Essie colours are great. I personally think the formulas are hit or miss. But one thing I will probably never love about Essie is the price. In Canada (and in the stores I shop in) OPI generally sells for $9.95 (excluding the Designer series which sells for $14.95.) I think OPI is tops! Essie is up there but with a price tag that's $2 more expensive than OPI will always make it a hard sell for me.

Have you seen Essie make an appearance in your local drug store? How much is it selling for? Are you super psyched that the brand is now more accessible, or do you feel kinda 'meh' like me?

I wasn't completely sure what was going on with my 500G external hard drive. It holds EVERYTHING from old school work and thesis stuff, music that's not currently on my computer, a whole crap load of movies and photos, and of course all my unedited videos and photos of nail tutorials that I was hoping to post in the next couple weeks.

I had a couple cool ones that I wanted to get up last weekend, but alas, they're being held prisoner within the walls of Western Digital. :@

Luckily, I randomly had a couple finished and placed in my documents on my computer (total fluke that they were there instead of my hard drive. I never put my nail tutorial stuff on my computer. It just takes up too much space and my poor Mac is too old for that kind of kid stuff.. lol)

So it wasn't showing up on my computer and didn't seem to be making the fast 'whirring' sound like it usually does. So I tried hooking it up to my mom's computer. It started to be acknowledged by the computer until a little pop-up window told me that it couldn't connect because it wasn't working properly. ARGHHH!

Dang.

Well, hopefully the tech guy at work can retrieve some of the data for me. So in the mean time I guess that means i'm going external hard drive shopping.... yay... : |

So I guess you're just gonna get the two videos that I managed to not have on my external hard drive. One is a nail tutorial (a pretty wicked one I must admit) and one is a collection video (that was requested) of my MAC eye shadows. My collection is quite pittiful, but it works for me :)

I'll probably have my collection video up today and the tutorial up a few days after that. and hopefully by then I will have retrieved my data from my external so you won't have to wait too long after that for the next update from me. :)
